I absolutely love learning about myths, folklore and stories from all around the world ✨🌍 I find it endlessly fascinating how the same stories, symbols and archetypes appear again and again across different cultures and landscapes, as if they’re woven into us all.

Last year I was so lucky to visit two places I’d dreamed of for years, Egypt and the Minoan palace at Crete. Both felt steeped in myth, magic and spirit, places where the old stories still hum quietly beneath the surface 🐍🌿🕯️

Did you know that one theory around the Selkie myth suggests it may have arisen from dark haired refugees washing up on Scottish shores long ago, mistaken for sea folk emerging from the waves. Persecuted people arriving on our shores from dangerous seas is by no means a new story 🌊

I made my Selkie with this in mind. She carries a quiet sorrow, holding the weight of those who feel othered, displaced, or torn between identities and homes. For me, Selkie speaks of the fragility of belonging and the deep vulnerability of those who cross uncertain waters 🐚🕯️

Wow, a full moon on the eve before Imbolc 🌕✨
A time of quiet thresholds and creative stirrings, when the first hints of hope and spring begin. We are now equidistant between the longest night and the spring equinox, standing gently in the in between.

My goodness, January really is the longest month ✨

At the end of last year I met a fascinating woman on the hypnosis course I’ve been studying, who introduced me to the idea of the five types of time: Chronos, Kairos, Cyclical, Aeon and Atomos. Since then I’ve been consciously playing with how it feels to experience time in these different ways, especially Kairos, the time of synchronicity.

Presence and flow have been core values for me since I began Flotsam Fables, and the idea of Kairos time feels like a beautiful invitation back into that way of being. Letting go of the clock, listening more closely, and trusting the moments that arrive just as they’re meant to 🕯️🌿
