Future Yard, 75 Argyle Street, Birkenhead 14th December – 15th December 2024
The final exhibition in the Flotsam Fables series, funded by Wirral Borough of Culture 2024, took place at Future Yard, marking a fitting celebration of creativity, sustainability, and storytelling.
Bringing together a weekend of art, community, and hands-on creativity, the exhibition welcomed a fantastic turnout of visitors, who engaged with the works and explored themes of transformation, mythology, and the power of repurposed materials.
A fully booked workshop was a highlight of the event, where participants crafted their very own Flotsam Poppet—small, symbolic figures made from recycled and repurposed materials, inspired by the idea of giving new life to forgotten objects. The event attracted attendees from across the country, with people traveling from Shropshire, Herefordshire, and even London to take part in the workshop.
Their enthusiasm and dedication underscored the impact and reach of the Flotsam Fables project, showing how its themes resonate far beyond the Wirral. This exhibition served as a meaningful conclusion to the year’s series, reinforcing the project’s central message: even in an imperfect world, we can choose to find beauty, meaning, and magic in the overlooked and discarded.
